Van der Graaf Generator Live
27 July 1976, Marquee, London

In the blistering summer of 1976, VdGG played a three-night sell-out residency at London's famous Marquee club. Yuzuru Agi - publisher of Japanese music periodical Rock Magazine - and writer/photographer Yuji Kaida attended the 27 July show. What follows below is Yuji's (nearly) complete set of pictures from that night, kindly shared by Rock Magazine archivist Satoru Higashiseto. They're displayed in the order they were shot and most of them are previously unseen.

The full credit for these images is:

Rock Magazine/Yuzuru Agi Archive. Photos by Yuji Kaida, provided by Satoru Higashiseto

During his time at Rock Magazine, Yuji Kaida photographed bands including Queen, Todd Rundgren, Supertramp, 801, Eno, Kevin Ayers, Gong, Pretty Things, Television, Talking Heads and Ramones. He's since gone on to become one of the leading artists of posters featuring Godzilla and other Japanese movie monsters!

Satoru Higashiseto also kindly allowed me to share on my other website a series of amazing colour pictures that Yuji took of Hawkwind at Cardiff Castle on 24 July 1976, three days before the VdGG show.
